Hazmat Logistics and Warehousing

Built on compliance. Proven by safety.

WSI delivers hazmat logistics for chemical manufacturers and distributors who can’t afford shortcuts. As a two-time Responsible Care® Partner of the Year, WSI expertly manages  hazardous materials logistics end to end, from compliant hazmat warehousing and trained handling to transportation by truck and rail.

Hazmat logistics services

Every link in hazmat logistics carries regulatory weight. WSI manages hazmat storage and handling under one compliance program, so you have one fewer handoff to manage.

Segregated hazmat storage

Your hazmat warehouse space is built for the materials it holds. That means segregated storage, fire-rated and flammable rooms, temperature-controlled space, and full site containment when necessary. Space is available as public or dedicated warehousing.

Trained hazmat handling

Material handlers hold IMDG, IATA, DOT, and HAZWOPER training. They manage drums, totes, pails, boxes, bags, and super sacks so each product is stored and shipped in the right form.

Not sure what your materials require? Send us your Safety Data Sheets and we’ll match the storage and handling to your product.

Hazard classes we handle

WSI’s hazmat warehouses are equipped and staffed for a wide range of regulated materials, segregated by compatibility.

Value-added hazmat warehouse services

Storing hazardous materials safely is the baseline. WSI’s value-added services prepare product for its next destination without adding another vendor to your chain of custody.

Repackaging and relabeling

Product is moved into the right container and labeled to meet hazard communication and shipping requirements before it leaves the hazmat warehouse.

Sampling, blending, and dilution

When materials need to be sampled, blended, or diluted before shipment, trained WSI teams handle it onsite.

Bulk storage and transfer

Bulk materials are stored and transferred under safety-compliant procedures, keeping product moving without compromising control.

Services at your facility or ours

WSI provides hazmat warehousing, chemical processing, and transportation assessments and services at your site or within the WSI network.

Two-time Responsible Care® Partner of the Year

The American Chemistry Council named WSI a Responsible Care® Partner of the Year in 2025 and again in 2026. The award recognizes Partner companies that fulfill every Responsible Care obligation and maintain an outstanding safety record throughout the year.

WSI has held Responsible Care® Partner status since 2013. The program requires ongoing third-party audits and annual performance reporting on environmental protection, safety, product stewardship, and security.

Hazmat logistics compliance built into daily operations

WSI’s hazmat operations are designed to comply with DOT and PHMSA transportation rules, OSHA hazard communication standards, EPA environmental requirements, DHS security requirements, and NFPA fire protection standards.

That compliance shows up on the floor through compatibility-based segregation, Safety Data Sheet access, documented training, site-specific emergency response plans, and containment matched to the materials onsite.

WSI’s chemical compliance team manages EPCRA Tier II reporting for facilities across multiple states, using Encamp as the system of record. Inventory changes are logged throughout the year and reviewed quarterly, so reports are built from current data when filing season opens.

Our customers expect the top tier out of us.
They like to see us consistently improving.

Hazmat transloading at Zacha Transload Terminal

The Zacha Transload Terminal is a multi-commodity hub owned by Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and operated by WSI. The site is prepared to handle dry and liquid bulk and hazardous materials, giving chemical shippers a rail-to-truck option without building their own rail infrastructure.

Hazmat inventory visibility

Regulated materials need records you can trust. WSI supports lot tracking, accurate inventory, and documentation from the ASN forward, and the customer portal gives you real-time visibility into stock position and shipment history.

A national hazmat warehouse network

WSI operates more than 6 million square feet of certified chemical warehousing in key logistics hubs across the U.S. Facilities sit near major metro areas, highways, ports, and rail, so your hazmat logistics network can position inventory closer to customers.

Hazmat freight and transportation management

Moving hazardous materials requires carriers, documentation, and timing you can count on. WSI’s transportation team coordinates hazmat truckload and LTL freight, plus rail through more than 8 million square feet of rail-served warehouses, with visibility from pickup through delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Hazmat logistics is the storage, handling, packaging, and transportation of materials classified as hazardous by the DOT and other regulators. It covers every step from receiving through delivery, including segregation, labeling, documentation, placarding, and emergency preparedness. A hazmat logistics provider manages those steps under a documented compliance and safety program.

Look for employees trained in DOT hazmat, HAZWOPER, IMDG, and IATA requirements, along with operations that comply with OSHA, EPA, DHS, and NFPA standards. Industry programs such as Responsible Care® and Responsible Distribution® add third-party audits beyond what regulations require. WSI’s chemical logistics division is a Responsible Care® Partner and a two-time Responsible Care® Partner of the Year.

A hazmat warehouse must comply with overlapping DOT, OSHA, EPA, DHS, and NFPA requirements, plus state and local permits. In practice, that means secondary or full site containment, compatibility-based segregation, fire protection, Safety Data Sheet access, documented training, and site-specific emergency response plans. Requirements vary by hazard class, quantity, and location.

Chemical warehousing covers the storage of all chemical products, many of which are not regulated as hazardous. Hazmat warehousing applies to materials that are, and it adds class segregation, specialized rooms, containment, and stricter documentation and training. WSI provides both, along with the hazmat logistics services that connect them. Explore chemical warehousing.
